• MD, DO, or equivalent international medical degree.

The Fetal Surgery Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is an advanced multidisciplinary fellowship offered through the Department of Surgery in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Chicago Institute for Fetal Health, Prentice Women's Hospital, and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. The fellowship prepares pediatric surgeons for independent practice in fetal therapy by providing comprehensive clinical and operative experience in the diagnosis and treatment of complex fetal conditions. Fellows participate in the evaluation and management of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), spina bifida (myelomeningocele), twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), congenital pulmonary airway malformations (CPAM), lower urinary tract obstruction, sacrococcygeal teratoma, and other complex fetal anomalies. Training includes open fetal surgery, minimally invasive fetoscopic procedures, EXIT procedures, prenatal imaging interpretation, multidisciplinary fetal counseling, maternal perioperative care, and neonatal surgical management. Fellows work closely with maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists, pediatric anesthesiologists, radiologists, genetic counselors, and pediatric subspecialists. The curriculum also emphasizes clinical research, innovation in fetal therapy, resident education, and participation in national and international scientific meetings. Graduates are well prepared for academic careers and leadership roles in fetal surgery and fetal intervention programs.
