Fellowship Program in Abdominal Transplant

The Abdominal Transplant Fellowship Program at UCSF School of Medicine is a 2-year ASTS-approved fellowship for physicians who have completed General Surgery training and wish to specialize in multi-organ abdominal transplant surgery. The program provides advanced training in kidney, liver, and pancreas transplantation, including deceased and living donor organ procurement and comprehensive pre-, peri-, and post-transplant patient care. Fellows rotate through kidney/pancreas transplantation, liver transplantation, pediatric transplantation, and donor multi-organ procurement, gaining experience in a high-volume transplant center and exposure to the full spectrum of abdominal transplant surgery.

1. Register and apply through SF Match
2. Submit the complete application and ranking through SF Match
3. UCSF accepts 2 candidates per year, with selection occurring approximately one year before the program start
4. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their application is complete at submission
5. A California medical license is not required at the time of application, but applicants must be eligible to obtain one if accepted
6. After matching, candidates must complete UCSF's appointment, credentialing, and California licensing requirements
7. Selection is completed through the SF Match process
