General Psychiatry Residency Program

The Psychiatry Residency Program at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine provides comprehensive training in psychiatric assessment and treatment, combining psychotherapy, cultural psychiatry, neuroscience, psychopharmacology, and evidence-based clinical care. Residents gain diverse clinical experience across University of Colorado Hospital, Denver Health Medical Center, Denver VA Medical Center, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and community settings. Training includes supervised clinical rotations, formal conferences, individual mentorship, research and scholarly activities, and exposure to specialized areas such as addiction, women's mental health, neuropsychiatry, integrated care, forensic psychiatry, telepsychiatry, mood disorders, and early childhood psychiatry. The program emphasizes progressive clinical responsibility, leadership, community engagement, cultural awareness, and development of lifelong learning and research skills.

3. The Resident Selection Committee reviews eligible applications based on academic credentials, clinical preparedness, experience, communication and interpersonal skills, motivation, integrity, and work ethic
4. Selected applicants are invited for an interview
5. For the 2026–27 recruitment cycle, interviews are conducted virtually through Zoom and are scheduled from October through January
6. The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP)
7. Applicants must apply separately to any additional Psychiatry tracks they wish to be considered for because the tracks have separate ERAS and NRMP program codes
8. The program offers 15 PGY-1 positions each year
