General Psychiatry Residency Program

The Adult Psychiatry Residency Training Program at UCSF School of Medicine, San Francisco is a four-year residency program that provides comprehensive training in adult psychiatry across multiple clinical sites, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, San Francisco VA Medical Center, and UCSF clinical campuses. The program integrates the biological, psychological, and sociocultural aspects of psychiatry, with progressive clinical training and opportunities in evidence-based practice, research, education, leadership, advocacy, and public policy. It prepares residents for careers in clinical practice, academic psychiatry, research, education, administration, and advocacy.

2. Submit medical school transcript
3. Submit MSPE (Dean’s Letter)
4. Submit personal statement
5. Submit CV
6. Submit USMLE transcript
7. Submit 3 letters of recommendation
8. At least 1 recommendation must be from a psychiatry faculty member commenting on clinical performance
9. At least 1 other recommendation must be from a non-psychiatrist commenting on clinical work in another specialty
10. Complete the Supplemental ERAS application, when applicable
11. Applications are screened after all required documents are received
12. Selected candidates are invited for an interview
13. Interviewees complete the UCSF Psychiatry Residency Supplemental Application
14. Apply through the NRMP Main Residency Match using the UCSF categorical program code 1062400C0
