General Psychiatry Residency Program

The Psychiatry Residency Program at UC Irvine School of Medicine is a 4-year ACGME-accredited residency program that provides comprehensive training in general psychiatry through a patient-centered and evidence-based approach. The program focuses on developing strong clinical skills in psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and integrated mental healthcare. Residents receive training across inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and community psychiatry. The curriculum includes supervised clinical rotations, weekly didactic sessions, conferences, research opportunities, psychotherapy training, and elective experiences to support professional growth. Residents work with multidisciplinary teams and gain experience at UCI Medical Center and affiliated clinical sites, preparing them for independent psychiatric practice or advanced fellowship training.

5. Selected candidates are invited for interviews (conducted virtually)
6. Final candidates are ranked and selected through the NRMP Match
