Fellowship in Public Psychiatry

The Public Psychiatry Fellowship at UCSF School of Medicine is a one-year advanced training program designed to develop expertise in community-based and public mental health systems, with a strong focus on serving underserved and vulnerable populations. The program is primarily based at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) and affiliated community sites, where fellows gain hands-on experience in integrated care, public sector psychiatry, population mental health, and multidisciplinary service delivery. Fellows are trained in addressing social determinants of mental health, health disparities, and system-level interventions, while also engaging in leadership development, policy, advocacy, teaching, and quality improvement initiatives. Overall, the fellowship prepares psychiatrists for careers in public sector leadership, academic psychiatry, and community mental health innovation.
