Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine

The Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, Brooklyn is a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship program designed to provide advanced training in the comprehensive care of older adults. The program focuses on developing skilled geriatricians through an interdisciplinary, patient-centered approach to managing the complex medical, functional, psychological, and social needs of elderly patients. Fellows receive clinical training in acute care of the elderly, long-term skilled nursing facility care, ambulatory geriatrics, rehabilitation medicine, home-based care, geriatric psychiatry, palliative care, and consultative services. The curriculum emphasizes comprehensive geriatric assessment, chronic disease management, preventive care, care coordination, functional evaluation, communication skills, leadership development, and multidisciplinary teamwork. The program prepares graduates for board certification in Geriatric Medicine and careers in academic, hospital-based, and community geriatric healthcare settings.

4. Selected applicants are invited for interviews
5. Final candidates are selected based on qualifications, interview performance, and program requirements
6. The fellowship participates in the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Match process through NRMP
