Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine

1. Completed an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine or Family Medicine residency program
2. Successful completion of USMLE or COMLEX licensing exams
3. Application filed through ERAS and participation in the fellowship selection process
4. Letters of recommendation, personal statement, and performance evaluations
5. Candidates requiring J-1 visa sponsorship are considered; H-1B visas are generally not supported.

The Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at Aurora Health Care is a one-year, ACGME-accredited postgraduate clinical training program designed to prepare physicians to provide comprehensive, coordinated care for older adults (age 65+). Fellows train in a diverse clinical environment with wide exposure to inpatient consult services, continuity clinics, home visits, nursing home care, hospice, palliative care, and geriatric psychiatry. Training emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration, advanced clinical skills in managing age-related conditions such as dementia, mobility and falls, polypharmacy, chronic illness, and complex psychosocial needs. The fellowship curriculum includes structured ambulatory continuity clinics, regular didactic conferences (grand rounds, journal club, morbidity and mortality reviews), interdisciplinary case discussions, and dedicated research or scholarly activity time. Fellows engage with best practice models including Acute Care for Elders (ACE) units, Geriatric Emergency Department programs, and the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute Memory Assessment Program, fostering skills in evidence-based geriatric practice and leadership in elder care across care settings.
