Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine

1. Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
2. Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Oklahoma.
3. Valid ECFMG certification for international medical graduates (if applicable).
4. Application submission through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service).
5. Participation in NRMP Fellowship Match or institutional selection process.
6. Demonstrated interest in geriatric care, long-term care medicine, or aging-related healthcare.

The Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine is a focused one-year postgraduate training program dedicated to advancing expertise in the care of elderly patients. The program emphasizes patient-centered, holistic management of older adults with complex medical, functional, cognitive, and psychosocial needs. Fellows receive extensive exposure to outpatient geriatrics clinics, inpatient consult services, long-term care facilities, memory care units, palliative care services, and home-based care models. Training integrates interdisciplinary collaboration with nursing, pharmacy, social work, physical therapy, and mental health professionals. The curriculum highlights evidence-based management of dementia, falls, polypharmacy, osteoporosis, mobility disorders, and end-of-life care planning. Fellows also participate in teaching medical students and residents, quality improvement initiatives, and scholarly activities related to aging and population health. Graduates are well prepared for board certification in Geriatric Medicine (ABIM/ABFM) and for leadership roles in academic geriatrics, hospital-based elder care, long-term care facilities, or community health systems.
