• The Dermatology Residency Program at New York Medical College is an ACGME-accredited postgraduate medical training program designed to provide comprehensive education in clinical, surgical, cosmetic, and academic dermatology. The program primarily operates through NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan and Coney Island Hospital, offering residents broad exposure to diverse patient populations and a wide range of dermatologic disorders.
• The curriculum combines structured didactic education, dermatopathology instruction, procedural training, outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, and surgical dermatology exposure. Residents receive extensive training in skin cancer management, cosmetic procedures, laser therapy, Mohs micrographic surgery, dermatopathology, and complex inflammatory skin diseases. The program also emphasizes clinicopathologic correlation through regular pathology review sessions and multidisciplinary teaching conferences.
• Residents participate in weekly academic lectures, journal clubs, grand rounds, procedural clinics, and faculty-led teaching sessions that strengthen diagnostic reasoning and evidence-based dermatologic practice. Specialized procedural exposure includes cosmetic dermatology, fillers, neurotoxins, laser treatments, scar revision, biopsies, excisions, and advanced dermatologic surgery techniques.
• The residency strongly emphasizes hands-on learning, mentorship, academic growth, and procedural competence. Faculty members actively support resident participation in scholarly research, conference presentations, and board preparation activities. Graduates of the program are well-prepared for American Board of Dermatology certification, fellowship training opportunities, and careers in academic medicine, hospital systems, or private dermatology practice.
