The Dermatology Residency Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a highly competitive ACGME-accredited training program designed to develop future leaders in clinical dermatology, academic medicine, and dermatologic research. Based primarily at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and affiliated institutions, the program offers extensive exposure to both common and highly complex dermatologic conditions. Residents receive training in outpatient and inpatient dermatology while working closely with nationally recognized faculty across multiple subspecialties. The curriculum encompasses general dermatology, pediatric dermatology, dermatologic oncology, dermatopathology, immunodermatology, dermatologic surgery, Mohs surgery, phototherapy, cosmetic dermatology, and laser procedures. A distinctive feature of the program is its continuity clinic model, which allows residents to manage patients longitudinally throughout all three years of training. Educational activities include daily didactic conferences, grand rounds, journal clubs, digital slide conferences, surgical teaching sessions, and visiting professorship programs. The residency strongly encourages scholarly activity, and residents are expected to participate in clinical or laboratory research under faculty mentorship, often presenting their work at regional and national meetings. The department also offers an optional research track that combines residency training with dedicated research time. Graduates are exceptionally well prepared for American Board of Dermatology certification, competitive fellowships, academic careers, physician-scientist pathways, and advanced clinical practice in dermatology.
