Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at UMass Chan Medical School is a two-year, ACGME-accredited program for physicians who have completed a general psychiatry residency, offering three positions per year with close integration into the Department of Pediatrics for enhanced consultation-liaison and infant/preschool psychiatry training. Fellows gain diverse clinical experience across community settings such as day care centers, schools, courts, and juvenile detention, alongside sites like the UMass Memorial Child and Family Forensic Center, Westborough Continuing Care Adolescent Inpatient Unit, and CANDO clinical services, all within a direct-observation training model featuring a roughly 10:1 supervisor-to-fellow ratio and an eclectic, culturally competent biopsychosocial approach. The program also emphasizes teaching and supervisory experience, elective time for individual interests, leadership development in the final year, and strong research opportunities through centers like the Brudnick Neuropsychiatric Research Institute and the Shriver Center.

1. Applications are handled through the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, typically via the Psychiatry Common Application (PCA) or direct application, as most Child & Adolescent Psychiatry fellowships apply outside the standard NRMP timeline (via the separate Child Psychiatry Match)

3. Selected candidates are invited to interview with the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry faculty
4. Offers extended based on interview outcomes and the Child Psychiatry Match/rank process
