The Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is one of the largest and most respected child psychiatry training programs in the world. The ACGME-accredited fellowship accepts approximately 10 fellows annually and provides extensive exposure to diverse patient populations across multiple clinical settings. Fellows receive advanced training through Hassenfeld Children's Hospital at NYU Langone, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, the Child Study Center, NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, and Rockland Children's Psychiatric Center. The curriculum combines intensive clinical training with a comprehensive didactic program covering child development, psychopathology, psychopharmacology, cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, neurodevelopmental disorders, trauma-informed care, and community psychiatry. During the first year, fellows rotate through inpatient psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, and partial hospitalization services. The second year emphasizes outpatient psychiatry, psychotherapy, psychopharmacology management, and individualized elective experiences. All fellows complete a scholarly project and participate in research, journal clubs, case conferences, and grand rounds. The program also develops leadership, teaching, supervision, administration, and advocacy skills, preparing graduates for careers in academic medicine, hospital leadership, research, and specialized clinical practice. Graduates of the fellowship have gone on to become department chairs, academic faculty members, researchers, and leaders in child mental health services across the United States.
