The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a two-year ACGME-accredited training program based primarily at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, one of the nation's premier pediatric academic medical centers. Fellows train within a large multidisciplinary department consisting of 19 full-time child and adolescent psychiatrists, 58 psychologists, and 53 social workers, providing a collaborative learning environment. Clinical experience spans outpatient psychiatry clinics, inpatient psychiatry units, partial hospitalization programs, emergency psychiatric services, consultation-liaison psychiatry, and specialized clinics for mood and anxiety disorders, neuropsychiatry, trauma, autism spectrum disorders, and early childhood mental health. Fellows receive comprehensive instruction in psychotherapy, family therapy, group therapy, pharmacotherapy, and developmental psychiatry while working alongside nationally recognized faculty. The curriculum also emphasizes scholarly activity, advocacy, medical education, and research, with opportunities to participate in clinical investigations and quality improvement initiatives. Regular case conferences, journal clubs, didactic lectures, and multidisciplinary teaching sessions further enhance clinical and academic development, preparing graduates for careers in academic medicine, hospital-based practice, and community child and adolescent psychiatry.
