Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

The Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) Fellowship at UC Irvine School of Medicine is a 2-year ACGME-accredited fellowship program that provides advanced training in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric disorders affecting children, adolescents, and their families. The program emphasizes a multidisciplinary biopsychosocial approach, integrating biological, psychological, and social methods to deliver comprehensive psychiatric care. Fellows receive clinical training through inpatient and outpatient services, consultation-liaison psychiatry, psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, developmental assessment, community mental health settings, and specialized child and adolescent psychiatric care. The curriculum includes didactic sessions, psychotherapy training, journal clubs, board preparation, scholarly activities, research opportunities, and mentorship from experienced faculty. The program offers both a traditional clinical track and a research/clinical track focused on developing future leaders in academic child and adolescent psychiatry.
