Anesthesiology Residency Program

1. Completed Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) application.
2. Personal statement.
3. Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) letter.
4. Medical school transcript.
5. United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores.
6. 3–4 letters of recommendation.
7. Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) paperwork, including the Medical Board of California Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL), if applicable.
8. Applicants to the Advanced Program must separately apply for an affiliated Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY-1) internship.
9. Applicants to combined programs must apply directly to the respective combined program through ERAS.

The Anesthesiology Residency Program offers comprehensive postgraduate training in anesthesiology, perioperative medicine, critical care, pain management, and multiple subspecialty areas. Residents receive structured didactic and clinical education with progressive responsibility and hands-on experience across diverse patient care settings, while having opportunities to participate in research, simulation-based learning, and specialized anesthesiology training.

1. Complete and submit the application through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Upload the personal statement, Medical Student Performance Evaluation letter, medical school transcript, United States Medical Licensing Examination scores, and 3–4 letters of recommendation.
3. Submit Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates documentation, including the Medical Board of California Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter when applicable.
4. Submit the completed application by October 15.
5. Stanford reviews applications and selects candidates for interviews.
6. Participate in the Stanford Anesthesiology residency interview. For the 2026–2027 application cycle, interviews are conducted virtually.
7. Rank programs through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
8. Stanford fills its residency positions through the National Resident Matching Program.
