Ophthalmology Residency Program

The Ophthalmology Residency Program at UMass Chan Medical School is a 4-year program with an integrated internship. During PGY-1, residents complete rotations across multiple UMass Chan departments along with dedicated ophthalmology training in examination skills. From PGY-2 through PGY-4, residents receive progressive training through clinical clinics, surgery, wet labs, didactics and conferences, with rotations covering pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, uveitis, oculoplastics, cornea and contact lens, comprehensive ophthalmology, retina, neuro-orbit, glaucoma and anterior segment. Residents also have opportunities for quality-improvement projects, research, poster presentations and academic lectures.

1. Submit the ophthalmology residency application through the San Francisco Match (SF Match)
2. Applications must be submitted by the Friday before Labor Day
3. Submit the required application materials and supporting documents through the SF Match process
4. Selected candidates are invited for the interview process
5. Applicants submit their rank list through SF Match
6. Successful candidates complete UMass Chan GME credentialing, Massachusetts licensing and other appointment requirements before starting residency
