About Course

The Otolaryngology Residency Program affiliated with New York Medical College is an ACGME-accredited postgraduate surgical training program designed to prepare physicians for comprehensive careers in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. The residency is conducted through major NYMC-affiliated tertiary care hospitals including Westchester Medical Center, Metropolitan Hospital, and Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, providing residents with broad exposure to adult and pediatric ENT disorders across diverse patient populations.
The residency curriculum provides extensive clinical and surgical training in otology, neurotology, rhinology, sinus surgery, laryngology, head and neck oncology, facial plastics, pediatric otolaryngology, sleep medicine, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, airway reconstruction, and trauma management. Residents participate in inpatient care, outpatient clinics, emergency consultations, operating room procedures, and multidisciplinary tumor board discussions.
Residents receive progressive surgical responsibility throughout training and gain hands-on experience in advanced procedures including endoscopic sinus surgery, head and neck cancer surgery, airway surgery, cochlear implant exposure, thyroid surgery, microvascular reconstruction exposure, and minimally invasive ENT procedures. The program emphasizes both operative competency and evidence-based patient care.
The academic curriculum includes grand rounds, cadaver dissection laboratories, morbidity and mortality conferences, journal clubs, simulation training, board review sessions, and research conferences. Residents are encouraged to participate in clinical research, academic publications, national ENT conferences, and quality improvement initiatives during training.
NYMC’s Department of Otolaryngology provides exposure to advanced surgical technologies, multidisciplinary cancer care, pediatric specialty services, and tertiary referral cases. Faculty mentorship strongly supports resident growth in surgical skill development, clinical judgment, academic productivity, and leadership within otolaryngology practice. The residency environment promotes professionalism, teamwork, and patient-centered care across both community and academic healthcare settings.
Graduates are prepared for American Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery certification and future careers in general ENT practice, head and neck oncology, facial plastic surgery, pediatric otolaryngology, academic medicine, and subspecialty fellowship training.
