The Ophthalmology Residency Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited four-year program that combines a fully integrated internship with comprehensive ophthalmology training. Residents gain extensive experience across multiple clinical settings, including Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, and community-based clinics, providing exposure to diverse patient populations and a broad spectrum of ocular diseases. The curriculum offers progressive responsibility in both medical and surgical ophthalmology, supported by structured didactics, grand rounds, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality conferences, and dedicated research training. A distinctive feature of the program is its advanced microsurgical curriculum, which includes a dedicated wet laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art operating microscopes and Eyesi surgical simulators. Residents also have the opportunity to participate in an optional international cataract surgery elective at the Grewal Eye Institute in Chandigarh, India. Strong mentorship, individualized elective rotations, and emphasis on research prepare graduates for American Board of Ophthalmology certification and successful careers in comprehensive ophthalmology, academic medicine, private practice, or competitive subspecialty fellowships.
