The Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (NPM) Fellowship Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is a three-year fellowship program designed to train physicians as specialists in the care of critically ill newborns and perinatal patients. The program provides comprehensive clinical training in neonatal intensive care, neonatal physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, neonatal resuscitation, and evidence-based neonatal practices. Fellows receive extensive hands-on experience through rotations in Level III-B Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) at SUNY Downstate University Hospital and Kings County Hospital Center, with additional exposure at affiliated institutions. The fellowship includes clinical rotations, maternal-fetal medicine training, neonatal procedures, quality improvement projects, and mentored research activities in areas such as neonatal pharmacology, respiratory care, neurodevelopment, and neonatal disorders. The program prepares graduates for careers in academic neonatology, research, and advanced neonatal patient care.
