Neonatal Perinatal Medicine Fellowship

1. MD or DO from an accredited medical school
2. Completion of an ACGME-accredited Pediatrics residency
3. Valid USMLE/COMLEX exam results
4. ECFMG certification (if applicable)
5. Submission of fellowship application materials (CV, personal statement, letters of recommendation)
6. Participation in interview and selection process through ERAS and NRMP pediatric subspecialty match or equivalent process.

The Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children is an academically rigorous, ACGME-accredited three-year subspecialty training program designed to prepare physicians for independent practice and leadership in neonatology. Fellows train in St. Christopher’s Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a major referral center for critically ill newborns, and in the Level III NICU at Abington Hospital Jefferson Health, gaining broad clinical experience with preterm infants, surgical neonatal care, ECMO, high-risk deliveries, and interdisciplinary care coordination. The curriculum blends intensive clinical service, structured didactic education, research and scholarly activity, simulation training, journal clubs, and quality improvement projects. Fellows also participate in maternal-fetal medicine consults and developmental follow-up clinics, enhancing their understanding of perinatal care continuity. The program emphasizes procedural mastery, evidence-based practice, and research competence, with mentorship that supports grant development, publication, and presentation of scholarly work. Graduates are prepared for board certification in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and careers in academic, clinical, or research fields of neonatology.
