The East Bay General Surgery Residency Program at UCSF School of Medicine, San Francisco is an ACGME-accredited residency training program that provides comprehensive education and hands-on surgical experience to develop competent, independent general surgeons. The program offers structured clinical training across multiple affiliated hospitals, including Alameda Health System–Highland Hospital, Kaiser Permanente Oakland and Walnut Creek, San Francisco VA Medical Center, and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. Residents gain extensive exposure to major areas of general surgery including trauma, vascular surgery, surgical oncology, pediatric surgery, breast surgery, transplant surgery, minimally invasive surgery, critical care, and advanced gastrointestinal surgery. The curriculum emphasizes progressive surgical responsibility, operative skills, patient care, research activities, and academic development, preparing graduates for board certification and careers in general surgery or surgical subspecialty fellowships.
