General Surgery Residency Program

1. Applicants must have a medical degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited medical school.
2. A completed ERAS application is required.

11. International medical graduates (IMGs) must provide an ECFMG status report.
12. Completing a rotation at USC is not required to be considered for the program.

The General Surgery Residency Program at Keck School of Medicine of USC is a five-year clinical training program that provides broad experience in general and complex surgery. Residents train across major hospitals and gain progressive responsibility in open, laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robotic surgery, with rotations covering acute care, trauma, colorectal, vascular, transplant, pediatric, hepatobiliary, thoracic, surgical oncology, and minimally invasive surgery. The program also includes structured didactic education, simulation-based surgical skills training, and opportunities for mentored research and academic development.

2. Register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
3. Submit all required supporting documents through ERAS.
4. The program reviews applications and invites selected candidates for interviews.
5. Final selection is conducted through the NRMP Match.
