Overview

The General Surgery Residency Program at Reading Hospital — sponsored by Tower Health — offers a rigorous and broad-based surgical training curriculum designed to develop skilled, competent surgeons equipped for independent clinical practice or fellowship training. The program integrates clinical exposure to trauma, vascular, thoracic, colorectal, pediatric, transplant, and minimally invasive surgery with a structured didactic education, surgical skills labs, morbidity and mortality conferences, journal clubs, and mentoring from experienced surgical faculty. Residents rotate through high-volume surgical services and gain hands-on experience in both elective and emergency operative settings. Training emphasizes evidence-based practice, surgical judgment, procedural proficiency, interdisciplinary teamwork, and patient-centered care across diverse clinical environments. With its affiliation with Drexel University College of Medicine and a busy emergency and trauma service, the program balances academic rigor with a community-oriented practice environment.
