Fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine

• Must have an MD / DO or equivalent medical degree
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Residency
• Must be board eligible or board certified in Internal Medicine
• Eligible for medical licensure in the United States
• ECFMG certification required for International Medical Graduates (IMGs)
• Strong academic background, clinical skills, and interest in pulmonary & critical care medicine
• Applications are evaluated on preparedness, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills, motivation, and integrity

The Pulmonary Disease & Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at UNC School of Medicine (UNCSOM), Chapel Hill is an ACGME-accredited, three-year training program designed to develop expertise in the diagnosis and management of respiratory diseases and critically ill patients. The program offers comprehensive clinical exposure across inpatient services, outpatient pulmonary clinics, and multiple intensive care units, where fellows manage conditions such as chronic lung diseases, respiratory failure, pulmonary infections, and complex critical illnesses. Fellows are trained in essential procedures including bronchoscopy, ventilator management, and airway care, while working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
