Fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine

1. MD or DO degree from an accredited medical institution
2. Completion of an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency
3. Passing USMLE or COMLEX licensing examinations
4. Pennsylvania medical licensure eligibility prior to fellowship start
5. Submission of application materials (CV, personal statement, letters of recommendation) through ERAS
6. Participation in the NRMP match and selection interview process

The Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Fellowship at Reading Hospital – Tower Health is a comprehensive three-year training program designed to prepare physicians for independent practice and board certification in both pulmonary medicine and critical care. Fellows learn advanced care for a wide spectrum of pulmonary diseases — including airway disorders, interstitial lung disease, pleural disease, pulmonary function interpretation, and advanced bronchoscopy techniques (including endobronchial ultrasound and robotic bronchoscopy). Critical care training provides extensive experience in medical intensive care units managing respiratory failure, shock, multi-organ dysfunction, mechanical ventilation, and complex ICU scenarios. Structured didactic sessions, multidisciplinary case conferences, research time, and continuity clinics complement clinical rotations. Fellows participate in weekly pulmonary and critical care conferences, journal clubs, and multidisciplinary thoracic oncology meetings, enabling both clinical mastery and academic growth. Graduates are prepared for careers in clinical pulmonary and critical care medicine, academic practice, and leadership roles in hospital settings.
