Fellowship in Infectious Diseases (FID)

1. Applicants must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
2. Applicants must be in good standing in the medical community.
3. Applicants must have completed an accredited Internal Medicine residency program by the time they enroll in the fellowship.
4. Eligible visa categories include United States citizenship, United States permanent residency, H-1B visa, or J-1 visa status.
5. International medical graduates must submit a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate, transmitted by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME).

Stanford Medicine Health Care (SHC) is an academic healthcare institution affiliated with Stanford University, providing advanced patient care, medical education, and clinical research. It offers specialized medical training through a comprehensive academic and multidisciplinary healthcare environment. The Fellowship in Infectious Diseases (FID) provides advanced training in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases through clinical experiences at Stanford Health Care, Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System, and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Fellows receive exposure to general infectious diseases, transplant infectious diseases, intensive care unit infections, antimicrobial stewardship, hospital epidemiology, and infection prevention and control. The program also provides opportunities for research, medical education, global health, and specialized training tracks to prepare fellows for careers in clinical practice, academic medicine, and research.

1. Submit the fellowship application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Submit a Curriculum Vitae and personal statement.
3. Provide at least three letters of recommendation, in addition to the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (Dean's Letter).
4. Submit the medical school transcript and United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) transcript.
5. Submit a recent photograph.
6. International medical graduates must provide the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate through the National Board of Medical Examiners.
7. The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Infectious Diseases Fellowship Match.
8. Selected applicants are invited to interview with Stanford faculty and fellows. The current interview process is conducted virtually through Zoom.
