Fellowship in Infectious Diseases (FID)

• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program
• Must hold an MD or DO degree (or equivalent medical qualification)
• Proof of passing USMLE or COMLEX examinationsMD graduates: USMLE Steps 1, 2 (CK/CS) and 3
• DO graduates: COMLEX Levels 1, 2 (CE/PE) and 3
• International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must have a current ECFMG certificate
• Must provide a valid California medical license within the required timeline before starting fellowship
• Non-U.S. citizens must have an ECFMG-sponsored J-1 visa or permanent resident status (H-1B visa sponsorship is not offered)
• Applicants must submit required academic and professional documents including medical diploma and recommendation letters

The Infectious Disease Fellowship at UC Irvine School of Medicine is a two-year ACGME-accredited clinical fellowship program that provides advanced training in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and management of a broad range of infectious diseases. The program offers comprehensive clinical exposure in areas including HIV/AIDS, hospital-acquired infections, tuberculosis, hepatitis, transplant infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and complex infections. Fellows receive clinical training at UCI Medical Center and VA Long Beach Healthcare System, with rotations in inpatient and outpatient infectious disease services, clinical microbiology, infection control, and antimicrobial stewardship. The fellowship also provides opportunities for scholarly activities and research in clinical, translational, epidemiological, and laboratory-based infectious disease fields under faculty mentorship.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)
2. Register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for fellowship selection
3. Submit required application documents through ERAS:

• Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
• Three Letters of Recommendation (including one from the Program Director)
• USMLE/COMLEX score transcripts
• Medical school diploma/certification
• ECFMG certificate (for IMGs)

1. Applications are reviewed by the fellowship selection committee
2. Selected candidates are invited for interviews
3. Final candidates are selected through the NRMP Match process
