Fellowship in Hematopathology

• Completion of a 4-year AP/CP (Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology) residency OR a 3-year AP residency.
• Must be board-certified or board-eligible in AP or AP/CP.
• Must obtain a California medical license before starting the fellowship.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or fulfill required residency/visa requirements before fellowship commencement.
• The program accepts J-1 visas but does not accept H-1B visas.

The Hematopathology Fellowship at UC Irvine School of Medicine (UCI) is a one-year ACGME-accredited advanced training program designed to provide specialized education in the diagnosis of hematologic diseases. The fellowship focuses on the evaluation of disorders involving blood, bone marrow, lymph nodes, and related tissues, including leukemias, lymphomas, plasma cell disorders, and myeloproliferative neoplasms. Fellows receive comprehensive training in bone marrow pathology, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, cytogenetics, molecular diagnostics, and clinical hematology consultations. The program also includes multidisciplinary case discussions, teaching activities, and research opportunities to develop advanced diagnostic and laboratory skills, preparing graduates for careers as expert hematopathologists in academic, clinical, and laboratory settings.
