Fellowship in Hematopathology

• Must possess an MD or DO degree (or equivalent international medical degree)
• Completion of ACGME-accredited residency in Anatomic Pathology (AP) or AP/CP
• Must be board-eligible or board-certified in Pathology (American Board of Pathology or equivalent)
• Preferably trained in combined AP/CP residency for broader exposure
• Eligible to obtain a Maryland medical license before the start of the fellowship
• International applicants must have ECFMG certification and valid USMLE scores (if applicable)
• Demonstrated interest or experience in hematopathology, laboratory diagnostics, or research
• Strong letters of recommendation, CV, and academic background are required for selection

The Hematopathology Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is a one-year ACGME-accredited program that provides comprehensive training in the diagnosis of disorders affecting blood, bone marrow, and lymphoid tissues. The program focuses on developing expertise in morphologic evaluation of peripheral blood, bone marrow biopsies, and lymph node specimens, along with extensive exposure to advanced diagnostic techniques such as flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, cytogenetics, and molecular testing. Fellows work in a high-volume academic environment, gaining experience in complex and consultative cases while participating in multidisciplinary discussions. The curriculum also emphasizes teaching, research, and clinicopathologic correlation, preparing trainees for careers in academic pathology and specialized hematopathology practice.
