Fellowship Course in Cytopathology

The Cytopathology Fellowship at UCSF is a one-year advanced fellowship with two positions available each year. The program provides comprehensive training in cytology, with particular emphasis on fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), ultrasound-guided biopsy, specimen triage, smear interpretation, exfoliative cytology, and advanced ancillary testing. Fellows participate in approximately 4,000 specimens annually from UCSF and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital FNA clinics, along with deep-seated lesion sampling performed with imaging guidance. Training also includes daily cytopathology sign-outs, intradepartmental teaching conferences, and grand rounds, with fellows gradually progressing from supervised training to independent practice.

2. Prepare a Personal Statement of Interest
3. Submit an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
4. Include a photograph
5. Combine the application materials into one PDF file
6. Submit the application by email to the Fellowship Program Administrator, Suria Sadat
7. Arrange for three Letters of Recommendation to be sent directly by the recommenders and/or program coordinator in PDF format
8. Applications are reviewed by the program and eligible candidates are invited for virtual interviews
9. For the 2027–2028 cycle, applications are being evaluated on a rolling basis, with offers made after interviews and no later than November 30, 2026
10. Beginning with the 2028–2029 academic year, the program will participate in the NRMP Match
