Fellowship Course in Cytopathology

1. Must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
2. Must have completed 3 years of Anatomic Pathology (AP) training.
3. Alternatively, must have completed 4 years of combined Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) training.
4. Must complete the required pathology core training before starting the fellowship.

The Cytopathology Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year advanced training program offering comprehensive experience in diagnostic Cytopathology. Fellows gain hands-on experience with gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens, fine-needle aspirations, endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspirations, pulmonary cases, rapid on-site evaluation, and ultrasound-guided thyroid and head and neck fine-needle aspirations. The fellowship also provides opportunities for Surgical Pathology electives, clinical and translational research, structured lectures, slide sessions, and preparation for board examinations.
