Fellowship Course in Cytopathology

1. Preference is given to candidates who are board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Pathology
2. Candidates should be eligible for certification in Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP)
3. Applicants must meet the program’s fellowship and institutional requirements for appointment

The Cytopathology Fellowship at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine is a one-year advanced training program in diagnostic cytopathology. The fellowship provides hands-on experience in fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of palpable lesions, immediate interpretation under faculty supervision, and evaluation of a high volume of non-gynecologic cytology specimens, core biopsies and FNA samples. Fellows receive training in rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE), ultrasound-guided endoscopy and bronchoscopy specimens, thyroid nodules and image-guided samples from Interventional Radiology. The program also includes graduated clinical responsibility, teaching of pathology residents and medical students, laboratory management, quality assurance and completion of a scholarly project.

1. Complete the CAP Standardized Fellowship Application
2. Submit the required application and supporting documents as specified by the Department of Pathology
3. Applications are reviewed by the fellowship program
4. Selected candidates are invited for a virtual interview
5. The program participates in the NRMP Specialties Matching Services (SMS) Fellowship Match
6. For the 2028–2029 fellowship, applications are scheduled to begin around October 1, 2026, interviews are planned for February 2027, the Rank Order List deadline is April 15, 2027, and Match Day is April 29, 2027
7. The fellowship is scheduled to begin in July 2028
