Fellowship Course in Cytopathology

1. Must have completed the required AP or AP/CP residency training.
2. Must be a resident in good standing at the primary training program.
3. Must obtain a California Medical License by July 1 of the fellowship training year.
4. A letter from the residency Program Director must document completed rotations and competency.
5. Two additional letters from Cytopathology faculty are recommended.

The Cytopathology Fellowship at the Keck School of Medicine of USC provides comprehensive subspecialty training in the diagnosis and interpretation of cytologic specimens. The primary training experience is at Los Angeles General Medical Center, which processes more than 21,500 cytology accessions annually, including gynecologic and nongynecologic specimens and fine-needle aspirations (FNAs). Fellows receive graded responsibility in microscopic review and sign-out of cytology specimens and perform FNAs of superficial lesions, with basic ultrasonography training to assist in lesion localization. The program also includes clinicopathologic and cyto-histologic correlation conferences, tumor boards, and opportunities for research leading to publications or presentations at national meetings.

1. Prepare the fellowship application and required supporting documents.
2. Provide a letter from the residency Program Director documenting rotations and competency.
3. Provide recommended letters from Cytopathology faculty.
4. Complete the application/interview process with the Cytopathology Fellowship Program.
5. Obtain the required California Medical License before the fellowship begins.
