Fellowship Course in Cytopathology

1. Applicants must have completed a United States or Canadian Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited residency in Anatomic Pathology / Clinical Pathology, Anatomic Pathology, or Clinical Pathology.
2. Applicants must be board eligible or board certified.
3. International medical graduates are considered only if they have completed their residency training in a United States or Canadian ACGME-accredited residency program.
4. A California medical license is required on the first day of fellowship.
5. Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae, personal statement, letter of good standing from their current program director, photograph, and three letters of reference.

The Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles provides advanced medical education, clinical training, and research opportunities. The Cytopathology Fellowship is a one-year advanced program offered through the Department of Pathology, providing specialized training in diagnostic cytopathology and fine needle aspiration. Fellows gain experience with pediatric and adult cases, gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens, superficial and image-guided deep aspirates, and progressively greater responsibility in cytopathology sign-out. The program also includes teaching, research opportunities in immunocytochemistry and molecular pathology, educational conferences, and preparation for the American Board of Pathology Added Qualification in Cytopathology examination.

1. Complete the UCLA Pathology fellowship application.
2. Submit the required application documents through the UC Recruit application management system.
3. Provide three letters of reference addressed to the Program Director.
4. Applicants educated outside the United States or Canada must additionally provide a PTAL letter, Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate, passport, and appropriate visa or proof of United States permanent residence/citizenship.
5. For the Cytopathology Fellowship 2028–2029, the current recruitment period is July 13, 2026, through December 31, 2026.
6. The program reviews applications and selects candidates for the fellowship.
