Fellowship Course in Cytopathology

1. Applicants must have completed an Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) or Anatomic Pathology (AP) residency training program.
2. Applicants must have passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 3.
3. Applicants must meet the requirements for medical licensure in the state of Georgia, United States.
4. International medical graduates must submit a copy of their Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate.
5. Applicants must provide the required application documents and three letters of recommendation.

Emory University School of Medicine, located in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, is a medical education and research institution offering advanced postgraduate training through its Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The Cytopathology Fellowship is a one-year, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited program designed to develop expertise in diagnostic cytopathology and fine-needle aspiration. Training is conducted at Emory University Hospital, Grady Memorial Hospital, and Emory University Hospital–Midtown, with exposure to more than 45,000 cytology specimens annually. Fellows develop skills in interpreting gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, performing fine-needle aspiration procedures, rapid on-site evaluation, telecytology, and ultrasound-guided aspiration. The program also provides experience in multidisciplinary conferences, teaching pathology residents and medical students, and accessing advanced diagnostic technologies, including digital pathology, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, and molecular diagnostics. Graduates are prepared for careers in academic and private practice, subject to applicable board-certification requirements.

1. Complete the College of American Pathologists (CAP) standardized fellowship application form.
2. Prepare an updated curriculum vitae.
3. Write a personal statement outlining your background, interests, and career goals.
4. Submit copies of your United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) results for Steps 1, 2 Clinical Skills, 2 Clinical Knowledge, and 3, or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination of the United States (COMLEX-USA) results for Levels 1, 2, 2 Performance Evaluation, and 3.
5. International medical graduates must include a copy of their Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate.
6. Arrange for three letters of recommendation addressed to Dr. Michelle Reid, Cytopathology Fellowship Program Director.
7. Participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Pathology Fellowship Match for selection into the program. The program does not use the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
