Dermatology Residency Program

1. Must be a graduate of an approved medical school (MD/DO or equivalent)
2. Must complete a preliminary PGY-1 year before starting Dermatology Residency training (PGY-2)
3. Applicants must have completed or will complete PGY-1 training in the United States for eligibility
4. International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must:
5. Hold a valid ECFMG certificate
6. Be eligible for a California Medical License
7. Complete PGY-1 training in the U.S.
8. Osteopathic (DO) applicants are accepted
9. Applicants should demonstrate strong clinical skills, motivation, integrity, teamwork, communication skills, scholarship, and service commitment
10. For the Physician Scientist (2+2) Research Track:
11. Advanced degree or additional research training preferred
12. Strong publication record
13. Commitment to investigative dermatology career

The Dermatology Residency Program at UCSF School of Medicine, San Francisco is an ACGME-accredited three-year clinical training program designed to develop highly skilled dermatologists with expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a wide range of dermatologic conditions. The program provides comprehensive exposure to medical dermatology, dermatologic surgery, pediatric dermatology, dermatopathology, inpatient dermatology consultation, and other subspecialty areas through rotations at diverse clinical sites. Residents receive structured clinical training along with daily didactic education, mentorship, research opportunities, and professional development activities. The program also offers specialized pathways, including a Pediatric Dermatology Focus Track and an ABD-approved Physician Scientist (2+2) Research Track for residents interested in investigative dermatology careers. Graduates are prepared for independent clinical practice, academic medicine, research, and leadership roles in dermatology.
