Eligibility Criteria

Must satisfactorily complete an ACGME-accredited PGY-1 year before starting the PM&R residency; acceptable pathways include Preliminary Medicine, Preliminary Surgery, or Transitional Year
Must apply through ERAS
Must provide USMLE or COMLEX scores
Must provide an MSPE/Dean’s Letter or ECFMG Certificate, where applicable
Must submit 3 letters of recommendation, including one letter from a PM&R physician
Applicants should have completed at least one PM&R clinical rotation
International Medical Graduates must have ECFMG certification before applying
For international applicants, the program requires appropriate U.S. training/immigration eligibility, and the PGY-1 year must be completed in a U.S.-accredited hospital, including 3 months of PM&R
International applicants are generally expected to have graduated from medical school within the previous 5 years
For IMGs, USMLE examinations must be passed on the first attempt with a score of 200 or above.

About Course

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Residency Training Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is a 3-year advanced residency program following a transitional year, with 6 residents admitted per year. The ACGME-accredited program provides comprehensive training across the full breadth of PM&R, including spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, musculoskeletal medicine, sports medicine, spine, pain, pediatrics, and palliative care. Residents receive diverse clinical experiences, mentorship, scholarly opportunities, and structured education designed to develop independent, well-rounded physiatrists. Graduates pursue careers across academic medicine, private practice, VA, hospital-based practice, and various PM&R subspecialties.
