Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program

The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Residency Program at UC Irvine School of Medicine is an advanced residency training program designed to prepare physicians to become specialists in rehabilitation medicine and the comprehensive care of patients with disabilities, injuries, and functional limitations. The program provides broad clinical exposure in inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, including spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke rehabilitation, musculoskeletal medicine, pain management, sports medicine, pediatric rehabilitation, amputee care, and electrodiagnostic medicine. Residents gain hands-on experience in patient evaluation, rehabilitation planning, interventional procedures, and multidisciplinary care through collaboration with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals. The curriculum integrates clinical rotations, didactic education, research opportunities, quality improvement projects, and procedural training to develop expertise in restoring function, improving quality of life, and managing complex rehabilitation conditions. Graduates are prepared for independent practice as physiatrists or further subspecialty fellowship training.
