The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited residency based primarily at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, consistently ranked the nation's leading rehabilitation hospital. The program provides broad clinical exposure across inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, emphasising evidence-based care, interdisciplinary teamwork, and innovation in rehabilitation medicine. Residents train at premier institutions including Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Jesse Brown VA Medical Centre, and Illinois Masonic Medical Centre. The curriculum incorporates structured didactics, electrodiagnostic medicine, musculoskeletal ultrasound, procedural training, research opportunities, mentorship, and customizable speciality tracks. Residents receive approximately six months of elective and selective rotations to tailor training toward career interests such as sports medicine, pain medicine, spinal cord injury, pediatric rehabilitation, or academic medicine. Graduates are well prepared for certification by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and for competitive fellowship training or independent clinical practice.
