Pathology residency programs

• Hold an MD, DO, MBBS, or an equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
• Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
• U.S./Canadian graduates must have successfully completed USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 (or equivalent) before the start of residency.
• International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must hold a valid, unexpired ECFMG certificate before the start of residency.
• Submit at least three letters of recommendation, with one letter from a pathologist strongly preferred.
• Be eligible for an Illinois medical license and have appropriate visa/work authorization, if applicable.

The Pathology Residency is a 4-year, ACGME-accredited residency program offered by the University of Illinois College of Medicine (UICOM), Chicago. The program provides comprehensive training in Anatomic Pathology (AP) and Clinical Pathology (CP) through rotations at university, Veterans Affairs, and affiliated teaching hospitals. Residents gain hands-on experience in surgical pathology, cytopathology, hematopathology, microbiology, molecular pathology, transfusion medicine, autopsy pathology, and forensic pathology. The curriculum integrates structured didactic teaching, multidisciplinary conferences, research opportunities, and elective rotations to prepare graduates for independent practice or advanced fellowship training.
