The Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at UAB Heersink School of Medicine provides comprehensive five-year postgraduate training in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. Residents gain progressive hands-on experience across major orthopaedic subspecialties, including orthopaedic trauma, adult reconstruction, sports medicine, hand and upper extremity, spine, pediatric orthopaedics, foot and ankle, and orthopaedic oncology. Training includes clinical care, operative experience, academic conferences, research, and resident teaching across multiple UAB-affiliated hospitals and clinical facilities. The program prepares residents for independent orthopaedic practice and further subspecialty fellowship training.
