Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program

1. Applicants must be graduates of U.S. medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
2. Applicants must meet the University of Colorado GME eligibility requirements
3. Must successfully complete USMLE Step 1 and Step 2, or COMLEX Level 1 and Level 2, before starting residency
4. Applicants must be eligible for a Colorado physician training license or full medical license
5. International Medical Graduates must hold a valid ECFMG Certificate and have appropriate documentation permitting legal training in the U.S.
6. Applicants must demonstrate preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills, integrity, and motivation
7. A minimum of 3 letters of recommendation is required, preferably from physicians who have worked closely with the applicant
8. The program does not discriminate based on sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, or veteran status

The five-year Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program provides comprehensive training in orthopedic surgery through clinical rotations at University of Colorado Hospital, Denver Health, Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center, and Children’s Hospital Colorado. Residents receive progressive training in orthopedic trauma, adult reconstruction, sports medicine, hand and upper extremity, foot and ankle, spine, pediatric orthopedics, and musculoskeletal oncology. The program emphasizes operative skills, clinical decision-making, research, teaching, simulation, and progressive surgical autonomy. A six-year Research Track is also available, incorporating an additional dedicated year of research training.

3. Applications submitted after the deadline are not accepted
4. Applicants must submit a minimum of 3 letters of recommendation
5. The program participates in Preference Signaling for Orthopaedic Surgery Residency
6. Applications are reviewed based on academic credentials, preparedness, aptitude, communication skills, personal qualities, integrity, and motivation
7. Selected applicants are invited for interviews in January
8. Interview invitations are sent on the Universal Offer Day
9. Final selection is conducted through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP)
10. The program offers seven PGY-1 positions annually: six clinical positions and one six-year Research Track position
