The Ophthalmology Residency Program at UAB Heersink School of Medicine provides comprehensive four-year training, including an integrated internship year followed by three years of dedicated ophthalmology training. Residents gain extensive clinical and surgical experience in cornea, glaucoma, retina and vitreous diseases, neuro-ophthalmology, uveitis, pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, oculoplastic surgery, and low-vision rehabilitation. Training is conducted across multiple affiliated clinical sites, providing exposure to diverse and complex ophthalmic conditions. The program also emphasizes progressive surgical skill development, research, and comprehensive patient care.
