Ophthalmology Residency Program

1. Must have completed the USMLE; COMLEX alone is not accepted.
2. Must meet the program’s requirements for entry into the 4-year Ophthalmology Residency Program.
3. International medical graduates must hold a valid ECFMG certificate.
4. International graduates must provide a State of California medical license eligibility letter.
5. The program can sponsor J-1 visas, but does not sponsor H-1B visas.
6. The program considers academic performance, USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 scores, clinical clerkship performance, research, recommendation letters, leadership, teamwork, integrity, compassion, and work ethic during selection.

The Ophthalmology Residency Program is a four-year training program providing comprehensive clinical and surgical education across major ophthalmic subspecialties, including cornea, glaucoma, retina, pediatric ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, and oculoplastics. Residents progressively develop diagnostic and surgical skills through clinical rotations, operating-room experience, case-based teaching, Grand Rounds, research opportunities, and training across multiple affiliated medical centers in Los Angeles.

2. Submit the SF Match common application form.
3. Submit the medical school transcript.
4. Submit a personal statement.
5. International medical graduates must submit their ECFMG certificate and California medical license eligibility letter.
6. Applications are reviewed and shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview.
7. Interviews are conducted virtually in accordance with SF Match and AUPO guidelines.
8. Participate in the SF Match and submit the required rank list.
