MD Community Medicine

The MD Community Medicine program at Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College & Hospital is a structured postgraduate course aimed at developing public health specialists capable of addressing health issues at individual, family, and community levels. The program emphasizes disease prevention, health promotion, epidemiology, environmental health, occupational health, nutrition, and national health programs.

Affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and approved by the National Medical Commission, the course integrates academic teaching with extensive fieldwork and community-oriented training. Residents actively participate in urban and rural health training centers, health surveys, epidemiological investigations, school health programs, and implementation of national health missions.

The curriculum includes biostatistics, research methodology, health management, and health policy planning. Regular seminars, journal clubs, field postings, and dissertation work ensure strong academic grounding. On completion, graduates are well-prepared for careers in public health services, academic institutions, research organizations, NGOs, and international health agencies.

1. MBBS degree recognized by NMC
2. Permanent or provisional registration with State Medical Council / NMC
3. Completion of CRRI on or before the prescribed cutoff date
4. Valid NEET-PG score with qualifying percentile as per category
5. Fulfilment of eligibility norms prescribed by KUHS, NMC, and counselling authority
