General Surgery Residency Program

The General Surgery Residency Program at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine is a seven-year surgical training program designed to provide broad and comprehensive experience across general surgery and multiple surgical subspecialties. Categorical residents spend two years in research or academic pursuits and receive a balanced clinical curriculum aligned with ACGME and American Board of Surgery requirements. The program offers progressive surgical responsibility and prepares residents for advanced fellowship training, academic careers, or independent clinical practice.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) through the medical school's Dean's Office
2. Submit the required application materials:
3. Medical school transcript
4. Chairman's letter
5. Three faculty letters of recommendation
6. Passing USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 scores
7. Personal statement
3. Ensure that all required documents are received by the program by the November 15 deadline
4. The program reviews applications comprehensively
5. Selected categorical-track applicants are invited for interviews
6. Interviews are conducted virtually, generally from November through January
7. Applicants participate in the NRMP Match
8. The program offers 12 categorical PGY-1 positions and 9 preliminary positions
