About Course

The General Surgery Residency Program at UC Irvine School of Medicine is a comprehensive, structured postgraduate training program designed to develop highly skilled and competent surgeons. The program provides extensive training across all major areas of surgery, combining hands-on clinical experience with strong academic and research exposure. Residents are actively involved in patient care, operative procedures, emergency and trauma management, and gain progressive responsibility under expert faculty supervision. The curriculum emphasizes minimally invasive and advanced surgical techniques, along with regular participation in teaching conferences, case discussions, and multidisciplinary collaboration. In addition, the program fosters research involvement and innovation, preparing residents for careers in academic surgery, subspecialty fellowships, or independent clinical practice.
