Fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine

1. Applicants must have completed three years of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited Internal Medicine residency training.
2. Applicants must be eligible for certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
3. Graduates of medical schools outside the United States must obtain Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification.
4. Applicants must meet Stanford Graduate Medical Education requirements, including applicable visa requirements.
5. Stanford currently uses the J-1 visa program for eligible international medical graduates.

The Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine is a three-year program providing comprehensive training in the diagnosis and management of pulmonary diseases and critically ill patients. Fellows gain experience in general pulmonary medicine, intensive care, lung transplantation, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, asthma, and other pulmonary subspecialties. The program also emphasizes research, teaching, and individualized career development, preparing fellows for clinical practice, academic medicine, and physician-scientist careers.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Submit a current curriculum vitae.
3. Submit a copy of the medical school transcript and certificate.
4. Submit at least three original letters of recommendation, including one from the residency program director.
5. Submit copies of actual United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores.
6. International Medical Graduates must submit their Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate.
7. Submit translations of required documents when applicable.
8. Submit a recent photograph and current visa status.
9. Selected applicants participate in virtual interviews.
10. Applicants participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for fellowship placement.
