Fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Disease

The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is a three-year ACGME-accredited fellowship program designed to train pediatricians in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and research of infectious diseases affecting children and adolescents. The program provides comprehensive clinical training through inpatient consultation services and outpatient clinics at University Hospital at Downstate and Kings County Hospital Medical Center, offering exposure to a wide range of infectious conditions including HIV infection, sexually transmitted infections, antimicrobial-resistant infections, and complex pediatric infections. The fellowship includes an intensive clinical training year followed by dedicated research training with protected research time, focusing on areas such as epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, infectious disease prevention, and clinical research methodology. Fellows participate in infectious disease conferences, microbiology sessions, antimicrobial stewardship activities, teaching, and scholarly projects, preparing them for careers in academic pediatric infectious diseases and specialized clinical practice.
